Video Blogging using YouTube

Vblog-using-youtubeFor our upcoming project we decided to that Video Blogging using YouTube is our best distribution method.  Why do you ask? YouTube is the second largest search engine and owned by Google. And as a social media site that compares to Facebook. We are able to connect with others on YouTube  by subscribing to their channels and having them subscribe to ours.

Youtube does have some faults and one of them as compared to Vimeo.  Vimeo does not run advertisements on any of the videos that you upload. This is probably the biggest advantage of hosting your videos on Vimeo instead of YouTube.  A con of Vimeo vs YouTube is there is a cost. Money has to be made in some way.  We have all heard it – nothing in life is free.  So if you are Video Blogging using YouTube it helps to know all the pros and cons. I am not saying one is better than the other or taking sides.  You need to do what is best for you and your channel.  I decided to chose YouTube based on my needs.

When you are doing Video Blogging remember it is all about quality content.  Feed the Google Beast with quality content and it helps in your rankings, thus, growing your channel and businesses.  Develop a blog on your site and push the social media like Facebook, Linkedin and others.

Video content is growing into a huge part of our media consumption, and YouTube is at the forefront. With the written blog there most niches are done to death.  However, take that to a video platform and you may just have something.  For my upcoming Vblog promoting Michigan I am looking for ways to not only promote the people and communities on Michigan but also to promote businesses, organizations, schools and non-profits.  Heck, we are even going to book some Michigan musicians.  Home grown and rockin… what a great combination.

Video Blogging

video-blogging-camera-setupVideo Blogging is a path DW Video is on with our upcoming series promoting Michigan.  It is an exciting time here in the studio.  Talking with guest for the show and making connections.

In yesterday’s blog we discussed some basic audio and video equipment to get you started in video blogging.

LIGHTING: With today’s cameras (even the cheap ones) are usually good enough under available lighting for YouTube.  However, when you are setting up space to do your video blogging keep one thing in mind.  Think like the viewer.  Would you like to see a dark, low light image of person talking to you?  It does not take much with the cameras of today to get a nice looking image.  The same goes for using to much light.  Test it.  Read up on low cost lighting.  A nice softbox will take care of most of your needs.

EDITING: I am not going to get in a Mac vs PC contest here.  Both are excellent for video blogging.  It comes down to your technical ability.  I use Sony Vegas and LOVE it.  However, I edit for a living and need the power Vegas provides me.  Do some research.  YouTube is full of how to tips for any software out there. Video Blogging is all about keeping it simple.  For our upcoming video blog we are doing just that.  However, because we are doing it in the studio I will use a three camera set up.  One wide shot, one on the host and one on the guest. This may change as we move forward – adapt and modify is my slogan.

If you do not want to be on camera maybe producing a slideshow style production with images, screen capture and narration is the answer. Software like Camtasia for capturing your computer screen and editing is one choice.  I believe you should be on-camera.  You are the expert, people connect better when they can see you.

Here is a tip I picked up at  Social Media Examiner  “For YouTube, make sure your URL is the first line in the description of the video. This will make it easy for people to locate and visit your site.

patient loyalty

patient loyalty customer service

Dr. Singh provides free patient education videos and testimonials to build patient loyalty .

What makes us loyal to certain brands and in healthcare what helps with patient loyalty? In today’s world of digital media and marketing we are looking for making it real.

In West Michigan  there is a Doctor that is using web site video to expand his message.  Dr. Harpreet Singh and the rest of  the team at Vital Checklist use video to tell and share their story.

In a recent article I read entitled ‘Patient Loyalty and the Social Media’ Effect, Verkamp, Jamie. The Journal of Medical Practice Management : MPM29.2 (Sep/Oct 2013):96-8.

This article was aimed at the healthcare market but it works in every business.  Here are their three tips: 1) Remember who bought dinner. Do we “thank” our patients (customers) after each interaction? Have your staff (sales people, employees) thank your patients (customers) for choosing you upon the close of each part of the office visit. 2) Like the song written by Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills & Nash says ‘Love the one you’re with’. Taking a moment to truly focus on the person in front of us. Wow your patients (customers) by making eye contact. Look around the computer or look up from the chart and take a moment to see patients (customers) on their level. 3) Mi casa es su casa. “My house is your house.” Think about how we treat our “houseguests.” When we welcome new guests to our home, we open the door, introduce them to our family, give them a tour, and offer them refreshments.

As I read the article it was like taking the plays out of Dr. Singh’s playbook.  Over the past year we have produced over 90 videos that are used on his facebook page, Vital Checklist,  Dr. Singh and iCrush websites

Patient Loyalty, Customer loyalty are important factors in how and why we do business.

Grand Rapids Inventors share their experience with GRIN.

Grand-Rapids-Inventors-Grand-Haven

Members come from all over West Michigan.

Attention Grand Rapids Inventors, we welcome you to join us as you begin to take a journey from idea to market.  GRIN, as many in the Grand Rapids Inventors Network call it is a growing group of individuals that have invented something and now need help with manufacturing, obtaining a patent, getting funding, marketing, Amazon and more.

As the name states it is more than just Grand Rapids Inventors.  Coming from Big Rapids, Howard City, Rockford, Grand Haven and Muskegon are just a few of the communities GRIN members come from.

I first got involved with GRIN through current President Joe Finkler when I did a couple small projects for his ‘As Seen On TV’ business.  He had heard about me through GRIN member Connie and Bill Larson from Larco Products.  We (DW Video and Joe) began looking at how to market GRIN.  Two videos were produced though having members of the board tell the story of the Grand Rapids Inventors Network.  Here is one of those videos.

WELCOME TO GRIN

Members share insight that go beyond a scripted production. Keep it real.

Anyone who knows me, knows I like to keep it real.  With social media being a big part of the American public’s routine.  People want to connect with others.  That is the basis of our Buy Local Video Profiles.

We are now marketing GRIN through video testimonials from their members.  At a recent GRIN meeting the process was started – six members shared their story on how GRIN has help them on their inventors journey.  It continues to amaze me the golden nuggets that we get with interviewing members of business and their customers.  Soundbites that are just plain awesome and work to really promote a business, organization, school etc.  We will get a few more and then go into production to produce more videos for YouTube, Social Media and the Grand Rapids Inventors Network website.

No matter what phase of the invention process you are at… GRIN can help.

To all the Grand Rapids Inventors out there – Come attend a meeting  (the first one is free) and find out how they can help you with both your invention idea and with the steps to success as an inventor.  This is a journey and you are not alone.  Why spend thousands of dollars trying to do it yourself.  Reach out to the many mentors that are at every GRIN meeting.  You will be glad you did.

For more information on GRIN visit their website for directions and times.
