Telling a video story is what Producer-Director Duane Weed is all about – your story.
Telling your video story does not have to be complicated. In this example I took an audio recording and pick certain segments to tell that story. For video used the GoPro time lapse function – then the edit using Sony Vegas. After picking out the audio segments enhanced the video story with title graphics to bring home the message – this is not easy. It took an hour or two to find just the right segments to use. It is a soft sell approach, not in your face advertising. Connecting with an emotion, a thought, a message. The video story is that – a story…. your story. For years we have preached that everyone has a story and we are telling it. Yes that is true – it is our job. However, it is also our passion… our purpose in life.
A video story has a message that inspires. The story is what moves people into a call to action. Is that call to action to call you? Is it to visit a web page set up for the viewer? Then we travel to Big Rapids and spent some time at the Mecosta County Community expo. Duane interviews some wonderful organizations in the Mecosta County area that are doing some great things. When researching for this blog article I came across two websites with some wonderful information on them. One is the Pure Michigan website and the other called Michigan Morels. According to the Michigan Morels website, “Black morel (Morchella Elata) in northern Michigan, usually starts slowly during the last 2 weeks of April. For the the yellow morels (Morchella Esculenta) Mothers Day is usually a big weekend. The 2nd and 3rd week of May is usually best for yellow morels. ”
According to Joshua Nowicki Pure Michigan Morels guest blogger, “Morels are very unpredictable as to where they will grow year to year. I have found them in fields, forests, the edges of paved road and even in landscaping wood mulch in busy metropolitan areas. To make it more complicated, in places where I have found many one year, I will not find any the next. ”
One thing is for certain, you will not find a map of where the best spots in Michigan are to hunt the morel mushroom. Avid hunters will share stories, recipes but one thing they will not share… where their hunting spots are.

The winter of 2014 found video producer Duane Weed capturing some stock footage and time lapse video around Michigan.
The winter of 2014 is one we will not forget. It will be remembered for the amount of days schools were closed. The amount of snow and the number of days of cold weather – also called the polar vortex will be in our minds for awhile. During this time I decided to shoot some time lapse videos with my GoPro Hero 3. Time lapse is a series of frames taken at an interval to give you the result you are looking for. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing.
Like with any effect you do not want to over do it, add Time Lapse Video as at tool for telling a story. Here are a few examples – similar in style – all around our great state of Michigan.

It may have been cold and windy outside – this Michigan Time Lapse was done over a one hour time frame, Edited with Sony Vegas Pro the slow zoom in was done in editing. The final was put to a buy out music soundtrack.

A Michigan Sunrise is beautiful. Editor Duane Weed took this time lapse with the GoPro. During editing added titles and movement to the final video. Then used a buy out music cut to not infringe on copyright issues.

In Frankport there was a storm coming in across Lake Michigan. Using the GoPro set this time lapse for around 45 minutes. Love the cloud action.
Using many techniques to tell a story – Time Lapse Video is a great tool for your storytelling toolbox.
