One angle from our Canon 60D
What does your businesses on-line marketing videos look like? Are you pushing your brand, your services, yourself? This is a daunting task, yet one that can increase awareness about you, your services and products. However, like with everything else, there is a right and wrong way to do video.
I often ask people, are you a million dollar business or one that wants to look like one? One of the worst options a business can do in most cases is produce their own. They end up with poor quality video that is actually doing harm to their business and brand.
Your first thought is ‘it must be expensive to do video’? The short answer is “it can be”. However, there are ways to keep the cost down.
At the time of this post, I have been working with Vital Checklist producing a series of videos that include Patient Experience Videos (testimonials) and Patient Education (training). There are currently over 60 videos that we have produced. These videos are being used currently on two separate websites: Vital Checklist and DrSinghMD.org. The videos range in length from 2 minutes to 25-30. On average we have hundreds or dollars per video into each one, not thousands. And, one does not have to be as aggressive with their on-line marketing videos. You do however, need to push content on a constant basis.
At DW Video we found a way to keep the cost down and get the word – the information out to world. Here are a couple ways we have kept the cost down for Vital Checklist.
1) Videos are recorded at our studio.
2) In some cases we shoot more than one at a time.
3) We set a template to how each one is produced. Do not get me wrong – we do step out of the box when the message needs more.
4) We set up a budget and invoice monthly.
5) We do consistent work each month. Keeping the website and social media fresh with content.

Arrived in Edgerton, Ohio last evening and noticed there is a train coming by every half hour or so. When I woke up Saturday morning and the day was nice. Grabbed the camera bag and out the door I went.
Drove around and found a couple locations to capture some stock video with my Canon 60D. I also grabbed my new Zoom Q4. Have not had the camera very long and thought “why not see the Zoom can do.

Place the camera on the ground fairly close to the tracks for the power shot.

The Zoom Q4 can get some really cool shots. It is small and put it almost anywhere. Just like with the GoPro.

Here are some frame grabs from the Zoom Q4.
The Zoom Q4 is similar to the GoPro in that is is small and can be concealed almost anywhere. Having both the Zoom and the GoPro is going to give many many options for creative control over the shots I need.
According to the Zoom Website, “The Zoom Q4 is all about bringing a new dimension to your music. It combines high-definition video with high-resolution audio, providing everything you need to shoot amazing videos with incredible sound.”
The audio was the reason I purchased the Zoom Q4 – having many tools in my toolbox is important to me. However, for this shoot, I forgot the windsock that comes with the unit. I left it back in Michigan, so I am not sure how well it works. The audio here was a bit windy, hence it was windy here. My mistake.
I used the Zoom Q4 in a concert setting the other day. The stage was really lit well and the Q4 had areas that were washed out. I am amazed at what these small cameras can do, but small, compact – I found a weakness. With no iris control you have to settle for what the camera decides as the correct exposure. A similar situation happened at my church where I had a camera on two guitar players in the worship team. The opposite – the lighting was low. The Zoom was unable to get me that great shot.

For the money – the Zoom Q4 ROCKS! I know now what limitations it has regarding lighting and will do what I can to adapt and modify.
