The flood of 1986 was a scary time – Consumers Power was afraid that the dams would not hold.
It has been called the 100 year flood. I remember the flood 1986 in in Michigan. The week of September 7th changed that. Sept. 11, 1986 the Muskegon River area experienced 14 inches of rain in a 48-hour period. This short segment is from the 150th Anniversary video produced for Big Rapids.
It was not just in Mecosta County. According to the Midland Daily News “The flood of 1986 is one of the most memorable and terrible events in the history of Midland and much of Michigan. The 500-year flood caused at least $58 million in damages locally.”

Where did the term for the 100 year flood come from? In 1886 the dams along the Muskegon river were tested. Six people died and 86 were injured with millions in damage.
The flood 1986, how likely is this to ever happen again? Known as a 100 year flood, even the 500 year flood. There have been flooded areas since then, but not involving the massive areas of real estate as was seen in September 1986.

Welcome to Pure Michigan. One website that you need to follow to learn about Michigan Morels is www.michiganmorels.com
Buy Local TV goes morel mushroom hunting with Gretchen in the beautiful state for Pure Michigan Morels. What is it about this passion and learn some tips. Then we travel to Big Rapids and spent some time at the Mecosta County Community expo. Duane interviews some wonderful organizations in the Mecosta County area that are doing some great things. This episode of Buy Local TV main focus is on Michigan Morels.

When researching for this blog article I came across two websites with some wonderful information on them. One is the Pure Michigan website and the other called Michigan Morels. According to the Michigan Morels website, “Black morel (Morchella Elata) in northern Michigan, usually starts slowly during the last 2 weeks of April. For the the yellow morels (Morchella Esculenta) Mothers Day is usually a big weekend. The 2nd and 3rd week of May is usually best for yellow morels. ”
According to Joshua Nowicki Pure Michigan Morels guest blogger, “Morels are very unpredictable as to where they will grow year to year. I have found them in fields, forests, the edges of paved road and even in landscaping wood mulch in busy metropolitan areas. To make it more complicated, in places where I have found many one year, I will not find any the next. ”
One thing is for certain, you will not find a map of where the best spots in Michigan are to hunt the morel mushroom. Avid hunters will share stories, recipes but one thing they will not share… where their hunting spots are.
I found on the Pure Michigan website this information:

Thermal Tec uses some of their videos to describe the benefits their roofing system on different types of roofs.
“Thermal-Tec covers millions of foot of standing seam roofs a year. Standing seam roofs are so well engineered that they did not leak for a very long time. As they age, the roofs develop leaks.” This is what Robert Siterlet, President Thermal Tec, states in one of his video profiles.
In this example we brought Robert into the studio to record his on-camera segment. To save cost we recorded more than one at a time. This kept it affordable and also great for Robert and his time schedule.
It was important with this series of video profiles to have Robert cover the benefits his roofing system offers over a number of types or roofs: Metal, Standing Seam, Fiberglass and more.
These videos are not hard sell, they are about the facts, keeping it simple and having prospects get to know Robert and Thermal Tec. People like doing business with people they know and trust. These videos do just that.
Thermal Tec has a roofing system specifically designed to work with standing seam roofs. It keeps it water tight and does not add much weight providing years of worry free guarantee.
