Dr Harpreet Singh and Duane Weed, DW Video & Multimedia, discuss with Denise what is needed for video shoot.
Dr Harpreet Singh came into my life in August of 2013. I remember meeting with him at the coffee shop in Big Rapids. Our meeting was to discuss his video needs. At that point for the past 29 years these meetings are about getting to know each others needs. He ask me a couple questions and immediately began sharing his vision. I was brought into his team that day and have enjoyed not only his business, but his friendship as well. Dr Harpreet Singh is a visionary. He has a plan and is doing all he can to grow his business Vital Checklist.
I find it amazing how God has guided my life and put me in front of people, people with a vision. People that need my services to help grow their business and in some cases really help others.
Vital Checklist mission is patient education as well as training doctors to care for their patients better. Dr Harpreet Singh is all about mnemonics. iCrush is a key in his teaching of patients to take better care of themselves. iCrush: Diabetes, Obesity, Smoking to name a few. This vision has led him to his first 5K event on November 9th in Big Rapids. iCrush 5K encompasses his message. Having a short seminar before the event begins opens the door for runners, walkers and guest to learn first hand from this awesome man and doctor… Dr Harpreet Singh.

Knowing no one was in danger or lives at stake. The fire was a thing of beauty to watch.

A big Thank-You goes out to the Howard City Fire Department.
Had an opportunity to work with the Howard City Fire Department last evening as they did a ‘control burn’ of an old barn.
I am always looking for opportunities to gather stock video. The ‘controlled burn’ was ideal in the fact there were no lives trying to be saved. No critical structures to save. Which from this video producers mind provided the perfect chance to capture digital video and photos. My heart would not like to obtain footage that I would profit from off of someones loss. Thank you Howard City Fire Department for this opportunity.
While capturing the video it occurred to me how beautiful the fire was. The way it moves, sways and dances about. Even the destruction of the barn, the frame and foundation were wonderful to watch and capture. Again, for me it was because there was no real loss. No body loosing a family treasure and more importantly… no one in harms way. I know, must be a softy. This is why I would not be good as a news reporter. I care to much.
Take a minute and watch for yourself, Howard City Fire Department – Controlled Burn.

Proud Ferris Parent

We used a variety of tools and shooting techniques when shooting this video.

Interviewing Ferris students to tell the story.
The story behind the Ferris State University-Michigan video shoot. The challenges and our approach to making the ‘Welcome to Ferris State University’ video.
Based on the Buy Local Video Profiles approach used by DW Video is to make it real. Let the key personal, customers and in this case professors and students tell the story. Video Profiles are considered as one of the best methods for communicating with audiences. It is much easier to consume the visual image than to read something.

Students having fun at the Welcome Event

Putting together the interviews took around 15 hours.

Capturing b-roll was a fun process. Meeting some wonderful students.
Working with Ferris State University Admissions the planning and organization (producing) of three videos: Welcome to Ferris, Campus Life and A Parents Perspective. Ended up with over 300 gigs of HD video. NOTE: Back-up your data on multiple backup drives.
One of the main challenges was being awarded the contract during the summer when most of the major programs were not in session. Then not being able to get the shots needed over the summer. Plus with the deadline needed 14 days after the start of school meant we needed to shoot the first week when none of the programs were up to speed. Then to meet the deadline two of the videos were edited in a marathon edit session Tuesday – Thursday. 10-19 hours per day. For all your video and media needs – contact Duane at 231-937-5420.

Aerial Video for a unique perspective of the Big Rapids area.

Working with Ferris Photographic Services capturing some aerial video of the Big Rapids area.
In our Welcome to Ferris video we also needed to promote Big Rapids. When doing the research for this project we learned that potential students and parents wanted to know more about campus life and the Big Rapids community.
We wanted to promote Big Rapids in a variety of ways so we went to the air to get a unique perspective of the community.
In our research for the project we worked with the client to understand their need and audience. Then went out and interviewed students, professors and staff to tell the story.
What we found to be the unique branding statement for Ferris was:
1) Small friendlier campus, 2) At Ferris you can get to know your professors and 3) Ferris is recognized nationally for academic excellence and hands on learning.

GO BULLDOGS!!!!
For this project we had to not only look at what Ferris offered, but also what the community of Big Rapids offered.
The results was to promote Big Rapids is to promote Ferris. Welcome to Ferris and Go Bulldogs!!!
