Handheld GoPro 3-Axis Stabilizer

Handheld GoPro 3-Axis Stabilizer

This is a screen grab from the helipal.com website. This is for informative uses only.

In a recent blog post we did a product review for the Feiyu G3 Ultra Handheld GoPro 3-Axis Stabilizer. I really like this product and it is a great tool for my video production toolbox.  One night at a wedding rehearsal I used the the Handheld GoPro 3-Axis Stabilizer to captured the event. The only drawback was the low light capability of the Hero 3.  The castle we shot the rehearsal at was low light in the room. It was not bad but that was my only negative. Which is not at all the fault of the Handheld GoPro 3-Axis Stabilizer.

The beauty of the shots adds a nice perspective to the rehearsal video.  I did this test to see how it would work and was impressed with the results.  We love the GoPro with all the wonderful uses from events, corporate, businesses, schools and much more.

The below video is the rehearsal in its entirety to show how we used the stabilizer.

GoPro Handheld Stabilizer

Feiyu G3 Handheld Stabilizer

First time using the Feiyu G3 Handheld Stabilizer for GoPro HERO was for Ferris State University.

I love me some toys and the Feiyu G3 GoPro Handheld Stabilizer is one that has many uses… and for not a lot of money.

For what you pay the results are wonderful.  I have found like everything else there is a slight learning curve.  Practice does make perfect.  The GoPro Handheld Stabilizer works just like their website states.

Taken from the Helipal website, “3-Axis is referring to Pitch, Roll and Pan axis, when you are walking or even running, the gyrosope inside the gimbal will pick up your movement and tell all three motors to counter-act your movement and keep the gimbal stable, the result is giving you extremely smooth and fluent video.”

The “Magic Wand” for the GoPro Hero is light weight and easy to use with just one button. Pitch, Follow and Target mode are controlled by the one button operation.  Personally I found the follow mode to work the best for me.  This will have to be a choice you make based on your shooting style.

The GoPro Handheld Stabilizer uses three batteries that you can get from the companies website, they can also be purchased from on-line stores like Amazon. The batteries seem to last awhile.  It would be nice to have a battery level monitor.  To not purchase for that reason would be silly – I really like mine.  Now if they could make one that is low cost that would handle my DSLR.

This video is one DW Video produced for Ferris State University.  Looking at it there are at least eight shots using the GoPro Handheld Stabilizer.

GoPro Handheld StabilizerIf I had to find one complaint and to be real do not know what could have been done differently.  That is, it is not real rugged and feel I have to be careful all the time to not break it.  However, be careful especially when packing it away.  Add the GoPro Handheld Stabilizer to your bag of tricks.  A great tool for for any video producers toolbox.

Solon Center Wesleyan Church Cedar Springs MI

DW Video used a three axis stabilizer with a GoPro to produce a video at Solon Center Wesleyan Church Cedar Springs MI. Earlier this week we shot a quick video at Solon Center Wesleyan Church to promote their new obstacle course.

Using the obstacle course as part of their outreach ministry Duane decided to go with a fast paced, action filled video to highlight the course and promote Solon Center.

Using the G3 Ultra Handheld 3-Axis GoPro Stabilizer for some fabulous video.

DW Video produced the Solon Center video with The “Magic Wand” with the Hero 3 camera by GoPro using the Feiyu G3 Ultra Handheld 3-Axis GoPro Stabilizer.  Our first project that we used the stabilizer for was Ferris State University.  It was awesome to say the least.

Using a drone with a GoPro camera to promote Big Rapids

Taking to the air while working on a series of videos for Ferris State University Admissions, DW Video uses a drone with a GoPro camera to promote the Big Rapids area.  The purpose of the videos is to encourage potential students and families to choose Ferris.  Part of the story is to show the area and using a drone provides some excellent views.  Teaming up with Ferris State University Photographic Services, Duane worked with Rich and his drone.

By the end of our shoot we had footage from the on-ramps to Big Rapids, a great view just north of Wendy’s looking south reveling the campus, shots of downtown, the fair and a great view of tubers and the river.  At one point we were laughing as Rich navigated the river and I swear we heard the theme song of George of the Jungle… “Watch out for the TREEE!
